HLRS Wins Award with Visionary HLRS III Design
Exciting news from Stuttgart! The High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) has won the Datacenter Strategy Award for "Transformation". The price recognizes HLRS for its sustainable computing center strategy and its visionary new construction project. Central to this achievement is HLRS III, a new facility designed by Benthem Crouwel Architects and Birk Heilmeyer und Frenzel Architekten for the University of Stuttgart, commissioned by Vermögen und Bau Baden-Württemberg. Once completed, this state-of-the-art building will be future-proof and energy-efficient, housing the next generation of supercomputers to advance simulation, visualization, and AI for complex challenges.
HLRS III sets a new standard for sustainable data centers, using renewable materials like timber to reduce its carbon footprint. Energy efficiency will be enhanced through solar panels on the roof and façade, along with an innovative strategy to capture heat from the supercomputers and redistribute it across campus, supporting decarbonization efforts.
